Dr. Li’s expertise and interests include (but not limited to) additive manufacturing, smart manufacturing, nanomaterial-enabled energy systems, biological and bio-inspired materials and devices, biomechanics, micro/nanomechanics, surface engineering, and tribology. His stature in the field of his expertise includes over 230 peer-reviewed journal articles in prestigious journals such as Science, Nature Communications, Advanced Materials, Advanced Energy Materials, Advanced Functional Materials, Nano Letters, Physical Review Letters, Acta Materialia, Physical Review B, Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids, and Philosophical Magazine; over 10,780 citations with H-index of 51; TMS MPMD Distinguished Scientist/Engineer Award (2015), Professional Engineering Publisher's PE Prize (2008), University of South Carolina CEC Research Progress Award (2008) and CEC Research Achievement Award (2011); over 70 invited plenary lectures/keynotes/talks at international conferences/workshops; Campus Director of the South Carolina Space Grant Consortium (2007- 2012); Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME); Fellow of the Society of Experimental Mechanics (SEM); University of South Carolina CEC Distinguished Professor in Mechanical Engineering (10/2009-9/2012); and Rolls-Royce Commonwealth Professor at the University of Virginia (8/2013-present). His breakthrough work has been featured by over 1,000 media outlets worldwide including BBC, Discovery News, Science Daily, and MSNBC. His innovation on cotton textile based composites was recently selected by New York Times – Year in Ideas for Year 2010. He currently serves as an Associate Editor for Transactions of the ASME - Applied Mechanics Reviews, and is on the editorial board for ten journals. He reviews papers for over 150 journals including Science and Nature series, and he was the elected chair for the TMS nanomechanical materials behavior committee.

Michael R. King is the J. Lawrence Wilson Professor and Department Chair of Biomedical Engineering at Vanderbilt University. Previously he was the Daljit S. and Elaine Sarkaria Professor at Cornell University. He completed a PhD in chemical engineering at the University of Notre Dame and postdoctoral training in bioengineering at the University of Pennsylvania. He has written textbooks on the subjects of statistical methods and microchannel flows, and has received several awards including the NSF CAREER Award, Outstanding Research Awards from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Society of Clinical Chemistry, and was a James D. Watson Investigator of New York State. King is a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, the Biomedical Engineering Society, and the International Academy of Medical and Biological Engineering, and serves as Vice President of the International Society of Bionic Engineering. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Cellular and Molecular Bioengineering, an official journal of the Biomedical Engineering Society, and serves as the Chair-Elect of the Biomedical Engineering Council of Chairs.

Amir Zadpoor studied Biomed Eng for his MSc and obtained his PhD (cum laude) from Delft Univ. Tech. He joined the Dept. Biomech. Eng. to work in the area of tissue biomechanics and implants in 2010 and started a research lab focusing on biomaterials, orthopedics, and biomechanics of tissues and implants. Amir is on the review and editorial board of several journals and has published many peer-reviewed article. He recently received the prestigious ERC and Veni personal grants.

Yuying Yan who obtained his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at City University of London is Professor of Thermofluids Engineering, Li Dak Sum Chair Professor in Thermofluids Engineering at University of Nottingham. With more than 30 years experience in fluid flow and heat transfer, he is a member of EPSRC Peer Review College; Associate Editor of Elsevier Journal - Case Studies of Thermal Engineering, Editorial Board member for International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, Nature Publishing Group's multidisciplinary Journal: Scientific Reports, Journal of Bionic Engineering, Automotive Innovation, and Elsevier Journal of Thermal Science and Engineering Progress. He is fellow of International Society of Bionic Engineering. He has supervised more than 30 PhD students and authored or co-authored more than 200 academic papers in refereed journals.

Lei Ren received his B.Eng., M.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering and Ph.D. in Vehicle Engineering from National Laboratory of Automotive Dynamic Simulation, Jilin University, China. He then came to Centre for Rehabilitation and Human Performance Research, University of Salford, and worked on a UK Ministry of Defense project on human locomotor biomechanics, and received a Ph.D. in Biomechanics. Thereafter, he worked at Structure and Motion Laboratory, Royal Veterinary College, University of London, as a BBSRC research fellow on comparative musculoskeletal biomechanics. From 2007 to 2010, he was with Centre for Robotics Research, Division of Engineering, King's College London as a lecturer. Dr. Ren joined the School of MACE, University of Manchester in 2010, and also works as a research scientist at Structure and Motion Laboratory, University of London. He is the founding member of the International Society of Bionic Engineering, and also a member of the International Society of Biomechanics, European Society of Biomechanics, the Society of Experimental Biology and European Society for Movement Analysis in Adults and Children.
